We're thrilled with your response to ILEAD U (Illinois Libraries, Explore, Apply and Discover), the initiative the State Library is undertaking with a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program Grant. You can learn more about ILEAD U at a special OPAL session next Tuesday, October 20 from 2-3 p.m. in the ISL OPAL room. ISL staffers Gwen Harrison, Connie Frankenfeld and Lynda Maddox will provide all the information you need about ILEAD U and explain how ILEAD U will enrich libraries, librarians and the communities they serve. To participate in the OPAL session, go to: http://www.conference321.com/masteradmin/room.asp?id=rs3e9abb7aa77aEnter a username (we suggest using your first name and last initial). Please leave the password field blank. If you experience any problems, please contact Jill Heffernan or call Jill at 217-557-3386). A software plug-in is required for access to tcConference, the webconferencing software that powers OPAL. The entry page to the Illinois State Library's OPAL room contains helpful information about the plug-in. A no-plugin-required web interface also is available for Mac, Linux, and MS users who cannot (or prefer not to) install the software plug-in. Please note, however, that not all OPAL features are available through the web interface. The ILEAD U Steering Committee is seeking participants, mentors and instructors to implement web technologies that foster community participation and develop leadership, innovation and positive change. ILEAD U will encourage both the experimentation with and building of participatory Web services and programs. The primary goal of this project is to help library staff understand and respond to user needs through the application of participatory technology tools.Application forms are due October 30th.For more information contact: * Gwen Harrison (217-785-7334) * Connie Frankenfeld (217-782-5432) or * Lynda Maddox (217-524-5866)
