This session will introduce many aspects of the Statewide Illinois Library Catalog (SILC) for interlibrary loan. Participants will learn how to search SILC by region and type of library, and how to expand searches in SILC to include all WorldCat holdings. Specific interlibrary loan instruction will include borrowing and lending, including scoping to favorite lending partners. This workshop will also review the FirstSearch Administrative Module components that need to be activated for interlibrary loan, and explore settings that enhance the SILC database.
To participate you will need your library's OCLC authorization and password for FirstSearch administration, and an Internet-accessible computer using at least Internet Explorer 6 or Firefox 1.5x, a headset with a microphone (for voice interaction), and computer speakers, or headphones (chat interaction available). This workshop is free if you are an IOUG (Illinois OCLC Users’ Group) member. Memberships are annual: $15.00 for individuals and $40.00 for institutions. Join at http:www.ioug.info/membership.html.
