This beginning-level session is designed for librarians who have little experience in cataloging library materials. The class will offer an introduction to the MARC record and an overview of the copy cataloging process.Participants will then have an opportunity to explore OCLC's CatExpress, a Web-based copy cataloging service that enables libraries to acquire bibliographic records and to attach their holding symbol to those records.
To participate you will need to have your library's OCLC authorization and password for cataloging, an Internet-accessible computer using at least Internet Explorer 6 or Firefox 1.5x, a headset with a microphone (for voice interaction), and computer speakers, or headphones (chat interaction available). This workshop is free if you are an IOUG (Illinois OCLC Users’ Group) member. Memberships are annual: $15.00 for individuals and $40.00 for institutions. Join at http:www.ioug.info/membership.html.
OCLC has developed a Training Portal (http://training.oclc.org/1)The training portal is your gateway to making the most of your OCLC products and services. This site provides you with access to additional in-person and Web-based instruction from OCLC and OCLC-certified training partners.
