This course is at capacity; no more registrations are being accepted at this time.This hands-on virtual course teaches participants how to copy catalog print monographs using RDA. This course will explore the core elements of a catalog record and the RDA (Resource Description and Access) guidelines as applied to the cataloging of print monographs. Participants will also learn the RDA terminology and the key changes between AACR2 and RDA records. The instructor will cover issues such as the preferred source of information, physical description, authorized access point, content/type/carrier types, and choice of additional access points. RDA Toolkit and OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards (BFAS) will be used for the course. This course consists of three (3) live instruction sessions held via Zoom with time built in for breaks. Each interactive session includes lectures, exercises, discussions, and quizzes. A detailed handout will be provided to all participants.Participants should plan to attend all three sessions as each class will build upon the previous class. The Zoom registration link will automatically register each person for all course sessions.These sessions are NOT designed to focus on any specific ILS or the local cataloging practices of any library or consortium.Pre-requisitesParticipants should have knowledge of MARC fieldsLearning OutcomesUpon completion of this course, attendees will be able to:• Identify what fields should bring a match• Explore and evaluate RDA and hybrid records in MARC format• Analyze RDA core elements for print monographs description• Interpret RDA guidelines for print monographs • Perform copy cataloging of print monographs using RDAInstructor BioNincy George is the Cataloging Services Coordinator at RAILS. She is responsible for cataloging and cataloging-related services to RAILS members, including training and the coordination of specialized cataloging support. She has more than 12 years of cataloging experience in academic, public, and school libraries.
