Cataloging staff at Full and Basic RSA member libraries are invited to join us for a Basic WorkFlows Cataloging Workshop at Brown County PLD. All cataloging staff are welcome to attend, whether they are new to cataloging, or they are existing catalogers, but a refresher of basic WorkFlows cataloging procedures would be helpful. Workshop objectives include the following: • Receive an individually named account to catalog at the basic level in the WorkFlows database (if the attendee is not already using an individual account).• Through hands-on practice, learn how to use WorkFlows to catalog regular and large print books, audiobooks, DVDs, and Blu-rays.• Discover how to perform efficient collection maintenance through global item edits and the use of a discard account to delete materials. • Find out how the RSA cataloging department and the Cataloging Maintenance Center are ready to provide cataloging assistance. • Review reports that identify cataloging issues in need of correction to ensure not only a quality database, but optimal discoverability for users.A lunch break is not planned for this workshop, but 1-2 short breaks will be provided. Attendees are welcome to bring a non-messy snack to eat during the breaks. Please watch for an email from the instructor a few days before the workshop. The email will include a checklist to help you prepare for the workshop. Please note that this workshop will not discuss the Core Competencies for Cataloging Staff at RSA Member Libraries, magazine cataloging procedures, brief records, item group editor, original cataloging, or OCLC Connexion procedures. The workshop is limited to 8 participants. Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please cancel your registration in L2 if you are unable to attend. If at least three staff (ideally from three different libraries) do not register for this workshop, it will be cancelled six business days prior to the workshop date. The instructor will notify registrants of the cancellation via email. The purpose of this workshop is to train a group of staff from different libraries. That approach results in more effective training, with staff sharing questions and experiences and building intra-library relationships. In the event of a cancellation, library staff are encouraged to register for a future workshop.
