Fall AudioVisual Information Discussion (AVID) Group Meeting

TOPIC: Licensing in libraries – a panel discussion on the impact publishers’ licensing restrictions and embargos have had on the maintenance of digital media collections and ways to advocate in response to those limitations. A representative from RAILS will also address the potential for a SWANK consortium to share the cost of film licensing for public performances in libraries.

• Annabelle Mortensen from Skokie Public Library speaking on behalf of an Overdrive standalone library
• Leila Heath from RAILS speaking on the SWANK consortium and (some) on the Axis360/e-read IL consortium
• John McInnes, Electronic Content Consortium board member will speak about how the licensing issues affect collection development for the Digital Library of Illinois collection
• Magan Szwarek – member of the Panorama Project Readers’ Advisory Impact Committee (RAIC)
• Larra Clark – Deputy Director Public Library Association, ALA Public Policy & Advocacy
