Marketing for Librarians is a two week online course that will run January 14 to January 27, 2019. The online course is self-paced using Teachable.com. Register through L2 and login information for Teachable.com will be provided a few days before the course begins. As librarians, we often are asked to take on roles and responsibilities that are outside of our expertise. One of the most common tasks that gets put on librarians' plates is marketing. Ensuring that your library has a strong presence in the community is so important, but this vital role often gets relegated to "other duties as assigned." Learn how to take on the marketing role without feeling overwhelmed! This class is designed for small libraries and marketing beginners.In two weeks we will cover:-Managing social media accounts-Creating press releases-Starting an e-newsletter(for free)-Making digital signage-Cross-promoting with the communityDesired Outcomes: At the end of the two-week class, students will be able to:-Design and publish regular e-newsletters-Have a social media strategy that highlights library resources-Create promotional material for programs and upcoming library resources-Build relationships with community members to build a stronger library presencePresenter: Barbara Alvarez has been training, speaking, and educating learners of various skill-levels and professional backgrounds for nearly 8 years. She is Head of Adult Services at North Shore Library in Glendale, Wisconsin.Participant Expectations:This two-week online course includes readings, suggested assignments and activities, as well as two video recordings by the presenter. It is estimated that you will spend about 5 hours each week participating and completing the work for a total of 10 hours.
