CLASS will begin the 2018/19 season taking a new look at a continuing role Youth Services Departments play in their communities: Early Childhood Advocates. Each day libraries provide programs and resources for children from birth through 5 years. This time we'll be taking a look at EC through the eyes of a family involvement coordinator in a elementary school district. Also, we will have round table discussions on initiatives that libraries are developing to promote early childhood resources. Look into how the expectations of parents and children concerning library resources has changed over the years. After the presentation we will have time for questions and answers as well as more sharing. Please feel welcome to share your thoughts, experiences and concerns about the future of Early Childhood Literacy within the public library.

Libraries Renewing Our Commitment to Early Childhood Literacy

In September, we will be hosting Anne Whiting-Parent Involvement Specialist at Indian Springs School District 109. Ms. Whiting will discuss early childhood learning initiatives through local school communities and how developing partnerships with the local public library has increased awareness of family resources both at school and the library. She will offer expert advice concerning the role of parents as literacy partners and how libraries are vital to build that bridge for families.
