This interactive workshop will guide attendees through a day of learning on how small organizations – from startup companies to nonprofits – build ties to a community through disciplined but highly creative strategies and tactics.

As a participant, you will receive a guerilla outreach guide and work both individually and in groups to begin brainstorming issues, strategies and tactics. Throughout the day, NYU professor and Forbes contributor David Vinjamuri will provide insights, best practices and tools to help you think clearly about your library’s current situation and begin to identify the creative strategies and programs that will propel your organization toward its goals.

Educational Objective – Help library directors, marketers, communications directors, other library staff as well as board members understand how to engage with their communities in a high impact manner with limited budgets and tight resources. This workshop will focus on substituting a crisp strategy and vivid imagination for a large budget.

Presenter – David Vinjamuri is President of ThirdWay Brand Trainers, whose clients over the last 14 years have included American Express, Starwood Hotels, The U.S. Army, Navy and Commerce Department. David is adjunct Assistant Professor of Marketing at NYU and spent over 17 years in brands including Coca-Cola and Johnson & Johnson as a marketing leader. He has been quoted in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and appeared on MSNBC, Fox, CBS News and PBS Marketplace. David writes “Brand Truth” for Forbes and is the author of “Accidental Branding: How Ordinary People Build Extraordinary Brands” and two thrillers. A previous talk by David Vinjamuri at an ALA conference inspired the Soon to be Famous Illinois Author project.
