Please note that Livestreaming @ the Library is a two week online course that will run Monday, January 22 to Friday, February 2, 2018.

The online course is self-paced using Because the course is self-paced, there are no scheduled meeting times. You will log in to the course to complete the work at your convenience between Monday, January 22 and Friday, February 2, 2018.

Facebook Live, Instagram Live, Periscope, YouTube Live, Ustream- it seems like livestreaming options are endless! But what exactly is livestreaming and how can librarians get involved? In this two-week self-paced course, students will learn what livestreaming is, why its such a trend, and how to implement it right away. No experience required!

- Livestreaming: what it is, why its popular and how it compares to video marketing and podcasting
- Who is using livestreaming and how it can be integrated into the library's social media and community engagement plan
- Comparison of different livestreaming apps, as well as equipment that is required for effective livestreaming
- How to host a successful livestream session with step-by-step instructions

Desired Outcomes:
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand what livestreaming is, why its important and how it compares to other digital outreach
- Recognize the different apps that deliver livestreaming capabilities, as well as what equipment is needed
- Host a livestreaming session and promote it on their social media channels and library website

Expectations: This two-week online course includes reading, video recordings, suggested assignments, and activities. It is estimated that you will spend about 5 hours each week participating and completing the work for a total of 10 hours.

Barbara Alvarez is the co-founder of The Library OnConference, a free, virtual conference held on livestream that has garnered nearly 500 global participants. She is also the author of Embedded Business Librarianship for the Public Librarian (ALA Editions).
