RDA Cataloging for Video and Sound Recordings

Full day workshop on the basics of RDA (Resource Description and Access) cataloging for video and sound recordings. There will be a one hour break for lunch on your own. Lunch will NOT be provided.

This class focuses on the changes of RDA when using descriptive cataloging for video and sound recordings. Experience as a copy cataloger is assumed.

--Structure of Resource Description and Access (RDA)
--Title and statement of responsibility
--Publication and physical description
--Notes
--Access points for creators and contributors

Desired Outcomes:
--Identify bibliographic records that have been cataloged using AACR rules, hybrid records (AACR and RDA records) and RDA records
--Convert AACR and hybrid records to RDA
--Format new RDA fields
--Apply RDA guidelines to bibliographic records when copy cataloging

Presenter:
Dr. Pamela Thomas has a master's degree in library science from NIU and a PhD in Professional Studies from Capella University. She has public, special, academic, and library system experience. She is the metadata cataloger for the Illinois Heartland Library System.

RAILS is partnering with the Illinois State Library, an ISBE approved provider, to provide PDH credit to those maintaining an Illinois teaching certification. Six (6) professional development hours (PDHs) will be available for attending this workshop. An evaluation form must be submitted prior to receiving credit hours.
