Legal Issues for Supervisors

Library managers who are not familiar with employment law could be placing their library at great risk for legal liability. It is often a manager’s words and actions that are at issue in a legal proceeding. Participants in this session will learn what they need to be aware of and how to address legal issues that managers commonly encounter. These include employee medical conditions, potential harassment and discrimination, at-will employment, wage and hour concerns, and the necessity to appropriately document employees’ actions.

This program is interactive and involves a combination of lecture, discussion, video and individual and group activities. In addition we will discuss sample harassment and discrimination, FMLA and reasonable accommodation policies.

This workshop is intended to provide supervisors with basic information about laws pertaining to employee injury/illness, not to provide detailed guidance as to how to handle FMLA/ADA claims from start to finish.
