Circulation I explores the Millennium Circulation Desk. We will explore all of the modes available on the Circulation Desk. Did you know it is possible to view individual loan rules, patron blocks, and the days closed table? We will take a look at the Millennium Circulation Parameters.

Do you know what information is contained within the fixed length fields “Current Item” A, B, C, and D in the patron record? We will explore the patron record including all fixed and variable length fields.

Covered in this class:

- - create, edit, and maintain patron records
- - adding a note or message to a patron record
- - link and merge patron records
- - search patron records using all available indexes
- - checking items in/out to patrons
- - changing the due date at check-out
- - backdating items at check-in
- - renewing items
- - marking items lost or claim returned
- - searching and viewing holds from the patron record
- - collecting, waiving, and adjusting fines
- - viewing the fine history of a patron
- - using the “on-the-fly” template for check-outs

This is a GateNet core circulation class and there is no prerequisite. This class is designed for GateNet members.

This class is mandatory for all GateNet circulation supervisors and any library staff member who works alone at the circulation desk.

After attending this class, the participant will be confident when a new customer requires a card, when checking items in/out, when dealing with fines, and when searching and placing holds in the patron record.

Circulation I is an interactive class, combining lecture and hands-on training. Circulation Staff and Supervisors will highly benefit from attending this class.

This class is offered monthly and will be presented by Sue Pearson. This class is also available on demand when three or more participants are interested.

Learning Objectives
After completion of the class, the participant will be familiar with creating and managing patron records and managing fines and bills.
