The morning session will focus on the basic cataloging rules of description for books. The afternoon session will introduce the basic tags, indicators, and subfield codes used in cataloging books. Emphasis is on translating/relating the elements of a book into the appropriate OCLC/MARC tags in order to be able to interpret, edit and/or create a bibliographic record in the OCLC database. The importance of coding accuracy in a networked environment is stressed. Participants will work on various exercises with subsequent question and answer periods.
