Looking for a new job can be a confusing and frustrating process for those who are suddenly out of work and have not had to search out employment for many years, if not decades. Information on changing careers, crafting resumes, and finding all the right places to start applying for employment online are just some of the ways that library staff are asked to help. Join Nancy Ashbrook of the Glenview Public Library and Jill Brenner of the Vernon Area Public Library as they offer the latest information on job searching, including helpful web links, databases, temporary or unusual job sites, and maillists, so that you can point your library customers in the right direction. Also included will be a tour and how-to for the hot business-oriented social networking site LinkedIn, including its popular “Jobs” section.Helpful websites to be profiled will include national and local job listing sites, resume and cover letter writing help sites, free computer skills tutorials on the web, a sample online employment application, and information about using LinkedIn.com.At the end of this session, participants will:• Be able to point patrons to appropriate websites and materials when they are doing job searches• Be able to assist patrons with online job applications• Be able to navigate the latest in job search sites and demonstrate to others how they work• Know about the Linkedin social networking site and how to use LinkedIn for job searches
