WORKSHOP *FULL*

In the last year, Twitter’s exponential growth has made it one of the most essential applications on the Web. Far from an endless stream of people describing their lunches, the service has become a serious platform for conversation, collaboration, and community. This workshop will explain what makes Twitter such a “killer app” and provide lots of hands-on training for developing a Twitter strategy at your library.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn the nuts and bolts of Twitter, from basic mechanics to power Tweeting
  • Create a strategy for filtering through the Twitter “noise” and identify the most useful followers for you
  • Get to know about the Twitter API and some of the most helpful third-party utilities
  • Develop a strategy for creating and sustaining your library’s online community

Toby Greenwalt is the Virtual Services Coordinator for Skokie Public Library, where he helps to build the Library’s relationship with its online community. He also blogs occasionally on the interaction of technology and library issues at www.theanalogdivide.com. You can also find him on Twitter at www.twitter.com/theanalogdivide.
