What’s happening in the magazine market, and how will it affect libraries? What are the best resources for identifying magazines and for helping patrons find articles? This session will include an overview of the current state of affairs in magazine publishing, analyze how this might impact libraries, provide specific recommendations for developing a distinctive collection of periodicals, and suggest the best databases for finding articles in the periodical literature.

Participants will learn:


  • what magazine editors are saying about online vs. traditional print
  • best databases for magazines, and tips for using them effectively
  • guidelines and resources for developing a distinctive and attractive collection of periodicals
  • guidelines and resources for acquisition, retention, and weeding
