WEB CONFERENCE - NOT VIEWABLE REMOTELY, ONLY VIEWABLE AT MLS CHICAGO OFFICETOPIC: SLA Click U: Green your Library, Part 2: easy steps you can take to do it.LOCATION:MLS Chicago Office224 S. Michigan Ave. Suite 680Chicago, IL 60604 REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Monday, December 8, 2008 PRESENTED BY:Anca Novacovici, Founder and president of Eco-Coach, IncThe CourseGreen and eco-friendly are two terms that are mentioned and discussed frequently in the media, in businesses, and by individuals today. Going green is a trend that has arisen from a growing awareness that global warming is a pressing issue. It reflects the recognition that we all have an impact, and are impacted by it, and that each of us can take action to have a positive rather than a negative impact on the planet. But what does being green mean for libraries and why is it important? How can libraries go green, especially if they are located in an older building, or one that they have minimal control over (in terms of electricity and water use, for example)? What should new libraries being build take into consideration? What have other libraries done? What are some relatively simple steps that you and your organization can take to be more environmentally friendly? How can you implement those steps in a cost-effective manner? This Click U Live! two-part seminar aims to answer these and other related questions. The second part is a how-to session that is aimed at helping attendees and their organization go green. Attendees will learn simple steps that they and their organization can take to be more environmentally friendly and improve the health of the occupants. We will then look at how these steps can be implemented. The recommendations will take into account cost and resource considerations, as well as environmental impact of each of the actions.Targeted Learners This Click U Live! Seminar is designed for librarians, information professionals, and others who are interested in learning how to make their organization more eco-friendly and potentially save money and improve the health of the occupants while doing it. This is an introductory course for those who may have heard of the green movement, and would like to learn about steps they can take to help their organization. It is also an informative seminar for those who may have started taking some action, and would like to learn additional steps they can take to move their organization forward in the greening process.Critial Learning Questions*What does going green mean?*Why is this relevant to libraries?*What are the potential health and environmental impacts of not taking action? *What steps have other libraries taken that have and have not worked?*What can older libraries do vs. those that are just being built?*What are easy steps that you and your organization can take to go green?*How can you implement the recommended steps?*How much time will it take and how much will it cost?
