Illinois libraries serve as vital community centers, connecting patrons to traditional books and resources, computers and Internet access, and innovative programming. Librarians are the first line of access for patrons living in poverty seeking employment resources, securing government benefits, and improving their education. Now, librarians are faced with questions about the new High School Equivalency Programs, different types of testing options, and helping patrons avoid predatory diploma programs. These changes are difficult to navigate as libraries research best-practices and effective resources that assist adults overcome gaps in education.

After participating in this presentation, libraries will learn:
• To position and promote already existing resources for adult learners studying for High School Equivalency Exams.
• To identify and help patrons avoid predatory diploma sites and work with the accredited High School Equivalency Exam programs, GED Testing Service, HiSET, and TASC.
• About the recent changes at the national level for High School Equivalency programs that impact how libraries work with adult learners
• A brief presentation of i-Pathways will occur at the end of the session. i-Pathways is a High School Equivalency Test Preparation program that libraries can use to support adult learning in their community.

This program will be presented by Kathy Olesen-Tracey, i-Pathways Curriculum Director. i-Pathways is an online High School Equivalency Test preparation program that libraries can use to support adult learning in their community.

RAILS is considering the I-Pathways resource for a future group purchase.
