This class provides an introduction to Library of Congress subject headings and the process of assigning subject headings to bibliographic works. Topics covered include:-How to determine the subject(s) of a work-Types of Library of Congress subjects, including topical, geographic, genre, children’s, and subdivisions -Reviews of MARC coding in subject authority records, including fixed and variable fields-How to construct a subject heading string-Searching in the OCLC authority file-Use of established headings in bibliographic recordsPrerequisite Attendees should be familiar with MARC coding and authority records.
