David Vinjamuri, author, brand expert, and NYU professor, will present the award for the Soon to Be Famous Illinois Author. The Soon To Be Famous Illinois Author Project is the brainchild of library marketing professionals from RAILS who were inspired by David Vinjamuri’s presentation at ALA. He credits libraries for the increasing interest in books and reading and maintains that publishers do not appreciate the influence libraries have. He challenged librarians at ALA to demonstrate their influence by finding a self-published author whose work could gain prominence based on librarians’ recommendations. A frequent contributor to Forbes, Vinjamuri has written about libraries, publishing, reading, and e-books. In a series of articles about the role of libraries, Vinjamuri said, "In a society where bookstores disappear every day while the number of books available to read has swelled exponentially, libraries will play an ever more crucial role. Even more than in the past, we will depend on libraries of the future to help discover and curate great books." Vinjamuri has presented programs at both ALA and PLA.There will be a presentation and reception.
