Sisters in Crime/MWA Writers' Workshop

A day of free writing workshops, offered by Sisters in Crime Chicagoland and Mystery Writers of America Midwest, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 in the Adult Classroom of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. Chicago area mystery authors will teach workshops on creating and sustaining conflict, crafting suspense, writing realistic dialogue and using setting to enrich fiction. To register for any or all of the free workshops described below, call (847) 923-3347.

“Effective Use of Setting,” will be presented by Gail Lukasik, author of Peak Season for Murder and Death’s Door.
“Creating Memorable Characters,” will be taught by Luisa Buehler, 2008 Lovey Award winner for Best Traditional Amateur Sleuth.
“Creating and Sustaining Conflict,” will be led by Jamie Freveletti, author of Dead Asleep and The Janus Reprisal.
“Writing Dialogue,” will be presented by Clare O'Donohue, author of The Double Wedding Ring and other novels.

Participants will not only have the opportunity to enhance writing skills, but also talk with authors. Books will be available for purchase and signing throughout the day.

Down the hall from the Writers’ Workshop, a Craft Fair and Flea Market will be taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Rasmussen Room. In the basement, a book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. No entrance fee or registration is required for the Craft Fair and Flea Market or the book sale.
