One of the most difficult aspects of messaging change is “playing the part”: convincing your staff that impending change will be manageable and positive even though you are just as scared as they are! Matt Elwell, CPLP (President and CEO, ComedySportz of Chicago, Inc.) will lead participants through a fun, interactive session that practices effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills around change. Key areas covered include: remaining relaxed, reading and responding to the body language of listeners, and facing surprising pushback and questions with a smile. Based in the training techniques of improvisational theater, participants will be encouraged to join in the light physical activity of improv games: walking, moving around, using hand gestures, making noise, etc. (You know! All the things you’re not supposed to do in a library!)
A business meeting will precede the program. The election of new board members for the Administrators Section will take place during the meeting.
This event is sponsored by Reaching Across Illinois Library System.
