This class provides an introduction to Connexion, OCLS's cataloging product. Connexion allows the user to search the WorldCat database and to create and edit bibliographic and authority records. This class focuses on searching the WorldCat database through the Connexion client and editing bibliographic records in Connexion.Topics covered include:--Settings and customization--Numeric and keyword searches using the Command Line--Guided searches--Results list displays--Navigation in a results list--Viewing a full record--Editing bibliographic recordsThis class is designed for catalogers of any experience level. This is a basic-level interactive class, combining lecture and hands-on training.If desired, you are welcome to come back in the afternoon and bring items from your library to work on during a separate open work session. This is an opportunity to reinforce the morning’s training with real-life examples. The work session will be from 1-4 PM, but you are not required to stay for the entire time. Please register separately for the work session.
Learning Objectives After attending this class, participants will be able to enter authorization information and customize settings in Connexion. Participants will be able to perform command line and guided searches and be familiar with types of results set displays. Participants will also be able to edit, replace, and save bibliographic records in OCLC Connexion.
Prerequisites Participants should be able to read and interpret a MARC record.
